Local College Bound Student prepares for her new journey at Fresno State this fall and shares some of her insights, thoughts, and perspectives of life in the Central Valley. Victoria, a Hanford local built with the passion and drive to pursue a career in Animal Science.
Learning over these past few months alongside the talented Victoria, I quickly became enamored with her solid work ethic and exceptional attention to detail. It was necessary to initiate early on what Victoria felt was the biggest obstacle living in Central Valley. High temperature, which depletes the motivational factor in getting ag or any type of outside work done. "Nobody wants to work in that," She Expresses. Aside from the extreme heat, Victoria attests to the sweet quaintness of this area which goes along with the positive attributes I asked her to identify in the Central Valley of California. Unique places that you can only find in this area, such a Superior Dairy and other Central Valley Exclusive Hidden Treasures. Our Own Fresno State of course being one of them.
As she prepares to enter the college scene, knowing what positive changes she is hoping to cultivate in the area places her in the perfect position as she prepares for this up and coming school year. As the area grows, her focus is to maintain that close connection with local members, the small business owners and keeping future clients close like family, something that was modeled to her through her father, a former chiropractor who values strong relationships.
Victoria shares a similar interest in health, but focusing on animals, with the hopes of obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science, long term goal to becoming a Veterinarian technician which has been a childhood dream.
It was clear animals and horses are close to her heart, but still needed to hear what other concerns she had about nature and the environment. The biggest concern she shared was simply average people lacking the knowledge of how to be good stewards and caregivers for nature and animals. We're often so distracted with cares of the world, careers, families, etc that many lack understanding how to care for nature, or their pets. A lot of distractions and not enough education of how things work and their impact on nature as a whole.
Concerns of water and air filtration was discussed, and the issue of the well water in her area unsafe to consume resulting in the family needing to purchase water. Air quality is not the best due to a lot of agriculture but can we dealt with by utilizing air filters, purifiers, and highly effective house plants.
It was important to ask her to express any thoughts she had to share with a local politician who may listen to her interview. Victoria wants them to always look back to their community where they started and keep that essentially front and center of their campaign. It often looks as if they're pursuing and maintaining their careers forgetting about their origins.
In closing statements Victoria shared her hobbies and interests outside of working with horses and was pleasantly surprised to hear about her passion for Color Guard a division of the Marching Band. She participated all four years of high school and was the Captain for the last two. Watching her face light up was a clear indication that Music and Color Guard were of true value to her, something that she notes many people seem to overlook or take for granted.
Many fans are focused on the sports aspect missing the true potential and value that comes from participating in their activities. Academics, social interactions, building friendships, collaboration, learning to work with others, and varying life skills are harnessed and improved through this outlet.
The Streeter Family has been paramount in Victoria's development, growth, and passion for working with horses, offering her innumerable lifelong memories and skills that will carry her throughout her journey not only at Fresno State, but also throughout her life. The desire to maintain and build strong connections with clients, community members, local business owners, Color Guard Friends, and Animal Companions, is close to Victoria's Heart, exemplified and made apparent through her awe inspiring work ethic.
Congratulations on your acceptance to Fresno State and looking forward to seeing where this next adventure takes you!
