Scripture reference: Joshua 1:8-9, Hebrews 13:5,
“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
The Holy Spirit indwells us. Logically, we know as believers that the Lord is always with us. Verse 9 confirms this and comforts us, “Be strong and of courage; do not be afraid…the Lord is your God.”
But before all that comfort comes the Command part most of try to avoid. We don’t likes the commands. We don’t like the laws and we don’t like to be told what to do.
Being required to meditate, read, study and keep the laws day and night - such a daunting task. We want to do what we want to … that is until someone else wants to do what they want to do which interferes with what we’re doing... We attempt to remain independent, only focused on ourselves, only to later realize how connected we all are and how our actions affect others.
Hebrews 13:5, for example, speaks concerning coveting: “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee…” Coveting can lead to jealousy, then to hatred, and possible theft. Or it may lead to gossip, which may turn to slander, or murdering the character of another, then to lying to avoid the hardships and harsh realities.
For one to avoid the hardships and harsh realities of life, or to endure them when trials come, we need to realize that the commandments create comfort, which is the success and prosperity in our daily walk. It is through the meditating on the law that you are told to carry everywhere with you that produces the blessings God has for us.
