(Perspective) Biblical " The Dinah Incident "

“The Dinah Incident” as the NKJV captions it in Genesis 34. The last verse is extremely vital to the entire chapter: “But they said, ‘Should he treat our sister like a harlot?’ ” This verse says a lot considering in our modern era, the answer may be a “yes”.  An old acquaintance from years past revealed in his youth a time his sister requested he go collect the money from some man that had gone to her for adult relations and had failed to pay her.  In our story from Genesis 34, despite the family of the man who “hooked” up with their only sister Dinah, agreeing to marry her and even agreeing to have all the men in that town circumcised, Jacob’s sons still decided to kill all the males in that town and take their sister back with them.  Jacob is fearful of the repercussions and potential retaliation from the other nations. But their response solidifies their reason for their actions. “Should he treat our sister like a harlot?”   The man who decided to have relati...

Everyone Copes: Comparing One Person’s Crisis to Another

Everyone Copes: Comparing One Person’s Crisis to Another During a youth group training seminar I attended years prior, the guest speaker made mention of the need for youth workers to be “Beautifully Angry” about assisting children in our modern society facing crisis. A balance of righteous indignation, love with a fierce passion and sense of urgency in addressing their needs. I also obtained from that training a book specifically designed for helping youth in crisis and the most valuable quote I took from there was, “You cannot compare one person’s crisis to another.” A teen just breaking up from a relationship feels their life is going to end. To us as the adults, we know it’ll be okay, or perhaps some don’t recall having such strong emotions and feelings over a breakup so the feelings of empathy are not there and it may feel that it’s no big deal. It was also advised to listen to the entire story before reacting. You may only have one opportunity to maintain that trust. I was awar...

(Perspective) Biblical: Humiliation Process-Advent and Christmas

Humiliation Process Read Philippians 2:5-11 5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it [a]robbery to be equal with God, 7 but [b]made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. 9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. He humbled Himself and became obedient. Some church backgrounds refer to His time on earth as His humiliation period. He subjected Himself to obedience during this time, even to the point of death. Really think about that. Some of you ...

(PERSPECTIVE) Biblical: Pixar's Coco Meets The Jesus House Party

Jesus’s House Party - By Invitation Only Read 1 John 4: 7-11 , John 14: 6 : Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’ 1 John 2:23, KJV: Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also. I often imagine heaven like a house party with security standing outside asking if you have an invite from Jesus to come into the Father’s House Our beloved Miguel from Pixar’s beloved movie Coco sneaks into an exclusive party seeking to connect with his distant great grandfather Ernesto de la Cruz. Sadly, it was discovered that he was a false prophet and nearly made a deal with the devil . The strange person on his journey with him the entire time, Hector was his real family. He wasn't famous or rich. Hector was ridiculed and mocked, accused of abandoning his family. He deceived and lied, desperate to get his life preserved. If you look up the name He...

(Perspective) Biblical: Jesus Who?

Jesus Who? Read John 18:17 , 25-27 , John 21: 15-17 , John 13: 37-38 I don’t know Him. I don’t know what you’re talking about. Jesus who? Did it cross Peter’s mind during their breakfast by the sea exchange that as many times as Christ asked him: “ Do you love Me? ”, that’s the amount of times Peter denied Him? One can only imagine how devastated Christ felt. The interesting thing is, He already knew what would happen . As part man, was He subject to the earthly emotions? Have you ever experienced anything similar? You’re rallying support to confront a boss then the boss asks if everyone agrees and suddenly all your support says, “ We don’t know what he’s talking about. ” Anyone ever accused you of being crazy? I’m sure a lot of good laughs were had. Jesus was mocked and laughed at as well during this. He really can relate to our earthly trials. So now it’s after the resurrection. These disciples are going on with their lives. Was Peter plagued by guilt at all? Was he on...

I see you and I hear you. We're in an era where sex work is not only promoted, it is becoming the new standard, possible near expectation for many young people. As they say, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em, right? w r o n g . Instead, I'll Observate them. In the original blog ( Merry Christmas To The Sex Worker ) the question was poised, " Is prostitution wrong ?" I promised I'd have a response. So here Goes: At the end of the day, one has to consider intent and what it actually looks like to be a " hoe or prostitute. " One could argue that a marriage is a formal contract that entails the same arrangement as that of a prostitute. All needs met such a food shelter, etc as long as the female is putting out sex, you're agreeing to do it with only...
